Dreams do come true!

Make fun all you want. I have loved this man since I was like 8. Ok ... maybe more like 12, but you know what I mean.

And the LOVE is deeper than "puppy love". When I was little, he and Marie were on TV. My family was SO drawn to them, because we were the only Mormons in our town, and to see them on TV was the greatest thing for us!

As I got older and more into singing, I grew to love him on a different level. He has a voice that touches my soul.

My life long dream is to sing with him. I've emailed Oprah, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. It's only been 4 years. I may send her a reminder. :) I told him that by the way, and he told me to keep trying!! heehee

I also had a chance to talk to his wife. She was so nice. I HAD to tell her what I've just told you, and, most importantly, that she is my hero. she giggled when I told her that. I said, "Um, you ARE married to Donny Osmond! I asked her if he was planning on an upcoming TV projects, and she said nothing was on the horizon. We talked about that All American Dream Show, and how it was such a disappointment. I told her I wanted to be on it, but my dream is to sing with Donny, so that would have been weird. She said, "That would have been cute!!" Oh well, that dream was killed.

Now...I will tell you how the meeting came to be...whether you want to hear it or not!! ;)

We have some friends who are in The International Children's Choir. They were performing at the Rotary International Convention, opening ceremonies. They also were planning on being the flag bearers, like in the Olympics, ya know!

Well, the kids wear VERY elaborate costumes, and it was too soon for them to change out of them to do the flags. So my friend called me to see if Nick wanted to! He was so excited!! At first they told us parents couldn't come to watch. But Sunday morning, my friend called to tell me they had made arrangements for the parents to be able to watch, on the jumbo-tron back stage. I was so excited to get to watch Nick participate in such a cool, once in a lifetime thing. I got a few of pictures, and a little video of it. Note that we were watching the back of the jumbo-tron, so everything is backwards. He was so old, and really "owned" it. We were SO PROUD!!!

So once I was there, I was told that they had seen Donny earlier in the day. I almost fainted. Was I really going to get to meet him? Then Nick called, and said he had just seen him. So off on a quest I went. Everyone was making fun of me. But I totally didn't care. I would have stayed there till midnight just to be able to talk to him. When I was "looking" for him, I was so nervous, and "twitterpated". Then, as I came around a corner, there he was, with his wife, and youngest boy. And some escort lady. I opened my mouth and out fell, "I've been looking for you!" He said, "Oh really??!!" I shook his hand and told how, I just loved him, and have for years...of course. Then I told him how I was gonna try to be on Pyramid just to meet him. He said, well, your too late for that! And we laughed. Then I told him about Oprah, which I have already told you about. And he graciously took a picture with me. I was very "not crazy". He he was so genuine, and sweet. I was calm, and acted my age, I know a stretch for me. When he was out of site of course, I had to sit down.

*sigh* It was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be. Well, we didn't get to sing together, but I'm working on that letter to Oprah! His even wife told me to keep trying, cuz he has never been on Oprah!!

So that was the healing for my soul event of the year. What a year it's been, even the last few months.

And thanks for sticking with me to read the whole story!!!

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If youre young at heart
For its hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If youre young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on its way

Dont you know that its worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart
For as rich as you are its much better by far
To be young at heart

And if you should survive to 105
Look at all youll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

And if you should survive to 105
Look at all youll derive out of being alive...

Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

I had the same crush..I was a little younger though. I watched he and Marie for the same reasons when I lived in California. And you made me feel less o-l-d!! ;)

Okay I was a HUGE fan for a while, and I saw them preform at the Ceazars Palace when I was young. Jimmy sang with them and he came down in to the audience and TOUCHED my cheek, while he was singing.

I also wore purple socks FOR EVER..

I had the donny and marie barbie doll things, with the stage, ect. All the records.

Jenny,
So cool! I have not met Donny--but did stand in front of Marie at the Scrapbook Expo a couple years ago. She came in dressed to the nine's--wearing sunglasses, talking on a cell phone (to someone already in the Expo Center) pushing one of her daughters in the stroller. I sat there and stared at her (how dumb--I know) and finally went "Oh my gosh--that's Marie Osmond!!!". Wanna hear another cool story? Touched By an Angel was filming at the same school where I was working as an Adapted Camp Counselor. The production people were very nice about letting the parents of our campers come in--and tried to not cause too much disruption (although, of course, everything was disrupted). Finally, one of the counselors worked up the courage with one of the campers to go out and ask if the kids could meet Roma Downey. I totally didn't think they'd say yes--but they did. So, we gathered up all those who wanted to go, and took them outside to meet Roma. I was SOOOOO impressed. Of course, she walked up and kissed the boy on the cheek who had gone out to ask. But, we had a girl who had cerebral palsy and was deaf. The girl had a misshapen jaw and drooled constantly because of it. We had to interpret for her (the little amount of signing she knew)--but Roma walked right up, talked with her (with us interpreting the best we could) and gave her a full frontal hug--not caring at all about the drool. I was completely impressed with that! Congratulations Jenny!

Thanks guys for all the comments, and songs! ;)

I have a couple Roma Downey stories.

Do you know she is the Spokesperson for Operation Smile? There is a video/infomercial out there. Check your local listings, it's run on public TV around here. It's so sweet.

Other story, when I was pregnant with Parker, I was an extra on Touched by an Angel. It was a show about a couple who was having a baby with Downs syndrome. Rome was the birthing instructor, and I was in the class. Chris Burke was on the episode, of course. It was fun to see them all at lunch! It was a great experience. Roma's daughter was even around that day!

I love to hear stories of people, famous or not, embracing "our" kids!!!

THIS ONE IS FROM KIM:

Jenny..
I just had the best time reading your blog about meeting Donny!!! I'm guessing we are in the same age range, b/c I too was in LOVE with him when I was little. Probably around 8-10 years old. I had EVERYTHING DONNY!!! Donny doll, Donny sheets (which I would kiss at night), Donny beach towel, Donny lunchbox, Donny, Donny, Donny!!!! I remember being a kid and staying up to watch the Donny and Marie show. I just loved it!
Wow, you brought back so many memories for me! I'm so excited for you that you got to finally meet him in person. I have always heard that both him and Marie are so gracious and kind when they meet fans. They are really moral and beautiful people with wonderful values that more "stars" should have.
How exciting for you!!!!! :)
Kim.

Jenny, I had to giggle at your post only because today I watched the Oprah show and it WAS so inspiring (I loved it when he basically bore his testimony of eternal families). It made me remember when I was a nanny for one of "the" Marriott's and I was at the house in Provo, and Donny just happened to be their next door neighbor. He was always outside, watering the lawn in his "play clothes" and doing other things. One day he came walking in the house like it was no big deal to tell me something about one of the girls I was watching (or something like that) and I just remember being able to say : "uhhm.. yeah, thanks..." (DORKVILLE!) When he left I was like DONNY OSMOND WAS JUST IN THE HOUSE!! Gadfrey, I'm kindof kooky. Then there was this one time when I was a little girl, but old enough to know who he was, and he was sitting behind my family in church and I looked over at my sister and said "THAT's DONNY OSMOND!" in what was Supposed to be a whisper. He looked up and just kindof laughed it off. Hello, I'm a dork.
and that is my story.
the end
